Blogging in WordPress

Hey guys, how was your past week? In the recent days I searched on the web an interesting similar website to write about. When I ran out of ideas, I’ve decided to dedicate that post to a growing niche- bloggers. Like me, many people enjoy sharing their knowledge or their life experience with other surfers. Most of us use free-domains from wordpress, blogspot and similar sites (unlike me. For a few extra dollars I rather use my own special domain). Many sites like the two above offer a blog domain with no extra charge, including hosting and templates. The sites that power that template usually add their name into the blog domain. For example, I’m using wordpress, so the original domain of that blog should have been similarblog.wordpress.com (If I used on of its similar sites, the address would be completely different. That’s one of the reasons I rather pay). The bloggers that prefer buying their domain can still use the really-comfortable-templates of publishing our new blog posts. We can filter comments, add pictures, widgets and hyperlinks and even check how many people visit our site (that’s how I know when to continue writing about a theme and when should I pack my luggage and leave…).

The Bloggers’ greatest dream is to become famous in their niche. Sorry, did I say famous? I meant rich. Luckily, these two usually comes together. More visitors = more $$$ (of course, that is not fully correct, but I will leave that for another post). However, I’m still not using any ads in my site- I like keeping it clean, but it doesn’t stop my from writing quality content and keep my readers interested. That’s why I write about similar sites on the web- an issue that matters a lot to me (and buy the amount of viewings- I can tell that it interests many others as well). In the next post I’ll write about wordpress and it’s similar sites, expand about each one of them and announce the winner.

Photobucket- top sites

Last time I mentioned Photobucket. According to these days, the site already has 8,586,710,278 photos (that’s a few more hundreds of millions pictures than last week…).

Like you know me already, I’m not a fan of the automatic choice when it comes to sites, and I like to explore the web and find better alternatives. When it comes to photo-sharing websites, I have a few main criteria to decide whether I want to use the site, and how often. The first criterion that Photobucket manages to supply very well is the amount of photos in the site. With more than 8 billion photos (and keeps growing bigger) they can assure me I won’t get board. Another few important measurements are the site options (can you upload the photos and then use them in social-media sites? Can you edit the photos before sharing them? How long can you stay ammoniums and when do you need to subscribe?), and how simple and comfortable to work with.

The best site in that field to my opinion is Flickr. Thanks to the site simplicity, every layman can get wonderful performances.

With 8 steps, you can host the pictures online, edit them, organize the photos (that is a really important tool especially if you are photo-addicts and have to immortalize each moment in your life…) and spread them across the web. The site is really comfortable and easy to use- and I highly recommend it.

Another really nice site is Tinypic.com. Although it is less common among surfers, he is very useful. You can view random pictures or most popular, check out what’s new on Twitter or your favorite category (retro, relationships, etc.) and upload your own. Then, you can buy a product with the photo you like (your own or just one that you liked).

For more sites like Photobucket, enter the list and see all of the results. If you found a better site than the 3 that I mentioned, I would like to hear about it.

The last time I actually went to a photography shop, printed out photos and categorized photos into albums where more than 5 years ago. How about you?

Computers in general and internet in particular became such a big part of our lives, and it is now replacing many out-doors activities. If a few years ago I just stored my pictures on the computer straight from my Digital camera, I could DIE if something would happened to my hard-drive (it will immediately erase a few years of my history), today there are much easier ways to store your pictures without the escort worries.

PHOTOBUCKET is a site that allows you to store your photos on-line. Not only that it saves you precious memory on your computer, you can take a pick on your photos from every computer in the world. The sine-up is free and you get to choose whether to save the photos to your selves or to make it public. You can also upload the photos to social-networks (Facebook, MySpace etc.) directly from the site.

If you are tired with your own photos you can always search for others’. There is a mega-collection of photos categorized by themes. Funny animals? Macro photography? You name it. The total collection includes over 8 billion (yes, it means 8,000,000,000) photos (not getting board is guaranteed). Latly the site added more fun stuff like videos, music category, stickers and photo-editing. However, Photobucket is not the only site that offers that service, so for the next post I will make a top-5 list of the best photo-hosting site.

More Activities sites

Hey friends,

Last time I mentioned the benefits of an activity site, especially in days that we spend most of our free time in front of a screen. Activitytv.com is a great site for fun activities, and although the site is targeted for kids, adults can also enjoy the content they are offering.

To find similar websites, I used the list Similar Sites to ActivityTv. You can find there several more interesting sites that I Didn’t write about in this Blog.

www.printables4kids.com is a site that is also dedicated for kids. you can use the category “coloring pages”. There you can find printable versions of different cartoons. The site also includes suggestion for group meetings and holidays, studding worksheets (in math and general knowledge) ect.

If you are interested in out-door activities, the site www.baseballrox.com would probably wake your urge to play. The site contains many suggestions and tips for playing baseball, including live videos for more effective learning.

The best site out of the list is defiantly familyfun.go.com . The site gathers around special recopies (now, when Halloween is coming, you can find plenty creative cooking ideas), printable draw-templates, how-to videos and a lot more cool stuff. I especially enjoyed the craft ideas, that can be divided by ages or themes. The site is owned by Disney, and if you enjoyed it you can subscribe their newsletter (that will be send to your Email for free) or their monthly magazine. I highly recommend it.

Since we are spending so much time at home in front of a screens (whether a TV or a computer), I figured out that it would be nice to have a site that encourages you to do different activities. After a quick search on the web I discovered a site called ActivityTV.

Activity TV is a site that basically targeted for kids and teenagers. However, it has many contents that fits all ages. The site includes short videos about activities that you can have at home that are separated to themes. You can learn how to dance jazz, ballet and even mambo cha-cha, learn how to cook simple recipes, perform different magics, draw cartoons, make origami, and much more fun activities. If you are a great fans of home-made activities you can subscribe their news letter and receive news about the sites to your E-mail. Until next time, I will examine different activity sites that are similar to Activity TV, announce which one is the best one and recommend you on several more.

More about Q&A Communities

Hey friends!

Last week I promised you to have a little research on the web in Q&A communities. To find the different sites I entered to the list similar sites to Wiki answers (which is, to my opinion, is one of the best Q&A sites, especially thanks to the fact that each question has only one answer who is edited by many different users).

The first result in the list is AnswerBag-one of the biggest sites of Q&A. A good advantage is that you can ask or answer as ammoniums (if you wish that your real personality will not be exposed).

answerbag

On the site you can get multiple answers to your questions and vote for the ones you find useful. You will start at level 1 (beginner), and rise to higher levels according to your points (that you will get on useful answers). The site has 4 main themes- Social, Expert, Local and shopping. Each theme holds different community discussions. If you wish to ask a question, you can first search for similar questions on the site and find out if the site holds already an answer to your question. If not, you can ask it, and the question will appear chronological in its topic.

Hey guys,

As you probably noticed, I recommend here a great site that I know- SimilarSites.com. When I work on the web, I use their add-on, which you can find at www.similarweb.com. Along giving you a list of similar sites, it can also find similar articles in the web and recent buzz.

When I entered their Blog today I saw that they are now organizing photos competitions. The best picture with their Banner will win a FREE iPod touch! I already sent mine, and I recommend you to also join this competition! You should take the picture with the following Banner:

And send it to the E-mail.

Advantages of Q&A Communities

Where can I get major discounts? Should I breakup with my girlfriend? How can I install the new version of windows?

A few years ago, we had to spend hours and even days to answer ourselves. Sometimes we even needed experiences’ advices. But now- all of the knowledge is just one click away.

A site that I really like is Wikipedia (I even quote it frequently to explain to you about some sites that I wrote about). However, sometimes you have to be a really good seeker to find what you are looking for. And of course- if your question is social, you will never find the answer you are looking for.

Fortunately, when the amount of people that looked for different solutions grew, several sites of community’s Q&A were born. “Wiki Answers” provides that services well. The content is edit in similar way to Wikipedia, except for the questions that replace the values. You get to choose a category, subjects est. Then users can answer the question or edit it. Along Wiki Answers you can find Askvill (by Amazon) that provides similar service.

Until next time, I will have a wide search on the web in order to find the best Q&A communities. If you have tips for me! I would love to hear them.

More about Photofunia

To your request, today I would like to tell you a little bit more about photofunia.com instead of writing about new sites.

As I mentioned two posts ago, photofunia.com is a site that allows you to animate your photo into some cool patterns. On their site, there are over 100 alternatives of effects to your photos. Most of them are just pictures, and several are animated. Photofunia is now the biggest site on that field, and offers many alternatives comparing to his competitors. However, there are more sites on the web who give other similar services. Here is a list I made of the best sites that DOESN’T give the same services, but similar applications. If you like Photofunia, you should defnatly try those ( All of the sites are from the list I gave you last time).

www.picnik.com allows you to edit your photo. It doesn’t offer special effects like photofunia, but you can make your picture as good as after a photo-shop work.

www.slide.com also allows you to edit your photo. You can also add stickers, texts and animation.

Through www.bighugelabs.com you can make a puzzle from your photo and create your own magazine cover.

www.loonapix.com has face applications , frames, trims and ect.

If you have more suggestions, or you would like to hear more about some sites, I would love to hear your offers!

Well, actually, there are here for almost a decade already.

When “The Sims” launched the first version 9 years ago, it was the first game that was goal-less. The players at The Sims create characters (which are called “Sims”), and manage their lives according to their will.

Wiki writes: “The Sims is the first game in the series. Developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, it was released for Microsoft Windows in February 2000. The game uses isometric projection and features open-ended simulation of the daily activities of one or more virtual persons (“Sims”) in a suburban neighborhood near SimCity. Seven expansion packs and two bonafide deluxe editions with exclusive content have been released this game. It was repackaged in several different formats and different versions of it were released on several different platforms”.

For The Sims fans, here are some cool tips:

www.xmsims.com provides you free downloads for The Sims, like hair, pets’ clothes and etc.
www.lianasims2.net dresses your Sims like it just walked out from a designers shop.

To find out more for your Sims, you can check out the list “Like Sims”, there you can find related sites, other games like Sims, and another cool features.
